Many clients ask us what the costs are for hiring a lawyer and what hiring a lawyer actually costs. You can ask for cost inquiries and information about the costs at any time in our office in Kerpen or our office in Witten.
The purpose of this page is to give you an initial overview of the legal cost structure.
For this purpose, you are welcome to use the contact form or call our phone number without obligation.
The costs for an initial legal consultation for consumers are regulated in the Lawyers' Fees Act (Rechtsanwaltsvergütungsgesetz). Thus, an initial legal consultation for a consumer may not cost more than EUR 190.00 net plus VAT. In total, you will incur costs of no more than EUR 226.10 for obtaining legal advice.
However, we take into account the duration of the initial consultation as well as the fundamental importance of the legal advice for your decision.
We always count the initial legal consultation towards the client's costs, insofar as we act for you in accordance with the German Lawyers' Fees Act (Rechtsanwaltsvergütungsgesetz). The same applies in this respect when a remuneration agreement is concluded in our law office.
In principle, the lawyer calculates according to the Lawyers' Fees Act from. Particularly in court proceedings, the stated fees for the lawyer may not be charged in accordance with the Lawyers' Fees Act must not be fallen short of. The lawyer, as an organ of the administration of justice, may not offer dumping prices.
However, the remuneration for the out-of-court commissioning of a lawyer can also be freely agreed outside of the Lawyers' Remuneration Act. At least an appropriate remuneration is due for the consultation by a lawyer. For the legal products "External legal advice" offered by us, we therefore offer a flat fee.
In civil law, the lawyer's fees under the German Lawyers' Fees Act (Rechtsanwaltsvergütungsgesetz) are generally based on the amount in dispute. This amount in dispute can be determined, for example, by means of a common catalog of amounts in dispute. As an example for the determination of the amount in dispute in labor law, the catalog of amounts in dispute for the labor jurisdiction of the Labor Court of Düsseldorf can be used.
This shows for the Legal action against dismissal an amount in dispute of a quarter of a year's salary for a Legal action against dismissal off. This is also the case at the Cologne Labor Court.
Based on the amount in dispute, the attorney's fee can then be calculated for each step of the proceedings up to the conclusion of the proceedings, for example by settlement or by judgment. The legal cost risk calculator of the German Lawyers' Association (DeutscherAnwaltVerein) provides useful assistance in calculating the lawyer's fee under the RVG.
We can show you the exact costs according to the German Lawyers' Fees Act (Rechtsanwaltsvergütungsgesetz) in more detail during an initial legal consultation and will also be happy to explain to you what costs you should expect for legal advice and representation.
Good legal advice requires some time and effort. In order for us to be able to represent you comprehensively, in many cases we conclude a fee agreement with you. This also means that the costs may be higher than determined by the German Lawyers' Fees Act (Rechtsanwaltsvergütungsgesetz). The hourly rate for our work, especially in exotic areas of law, will be discussed transparently with you during an initial meeting.
In the context of out-of-court legal advice, you can usually even get away with less complex facts and legal issues than if you were charged according to the German Lawyers' Fees Act (Rechtsanwaltsvergütungsgesetz).
Also, many questions regarding the mandating of a lawyer are not even asked in the Lawyers' Fees Act.
Within the framework of a remuneration agreement, we are also able to carry out a performance audit prior to the submission of a comprehensive statement of claim, which will protect you from unpleasant surprises during or after the legal proceedings. Within the framework of a remuneration agreement, we are able to assess the chances of success of a lawsuit or to provide legal advice and representation much more effectively than is the case under the German Lawyers' Fees Act (Rechtsanwaltsvergütungsgesetz).
For you, the conclusion of a remuneration agreement also offers the advantage that you know exactly what costs you will incur for legal advice and representation, both in court proceedings and out of court. For entrepreneurs in particular, a remuneration agreement thus also offers a calculable figure.
In many cases, even in exotic areas of law such as employee migration law or even data protection law, we can offer flat-rate compensation without having to watch the clock. And even when implementing large projects, such as the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation in your company or even the implementation of the Trade Secrets Act, we can offer you an attractive remuneration model for our work with a remuneration agreement.
In the area of employment law, we generally bill on the basis of a fee agreement when drafting or reviewing contracts.
Simply contact us within the initial legal consultation and we will work with you to find a solution that is attractive to you.
Of course, we also settle with the legal protection insurance. Therefore, please ask your legal protection insurance company whether they will cover the costs of legal advice and representation before you hire us. This will save you unnecessary delays in processing the mandate.
However, we are also happy to take over the correspondence with the legal protection insurance for you. In doing so, we also use the DREBIS interface for correspondence with the legal protection insurance. Therefore, a decision is usually possible within 48 hours fully digitally.
If you have any questions regarding your legal protection insurance, you can always contact the legal protection insurance company or our secretariat, which will be happy to help you with all your questions.
Within the scope of invoice processing, we offer you all common means of payment, whereby we generally refrain from accepting cash. With us, you can pay with all major credit cards, such as MasterCard, Visa and American Express. As a digitalized IT law firm, we also offer payments via PayPal, ApplePay and GooglePay in our office.
We cooperate with the Lawyers' Clearing House and can therefore also offer you payment within 30 days or payment in installments for up to twelve months. You are also welcome to contact us for this purpose. Together with you, we will then find a solution adapted to your needs.
If you have any further questions about payment methods, please feel free to contact us.
